5 for Friday

Five for Friday Headliners~
#1
Our school started the OAA testing this week!
We had an amazing visit by motivational speaker Basketball Jones who did an awesome job "pumpin the kids up" for the test!  He even included our primary littles in all the events!  I grabbed my iPad and recorded  two performances that were precious!
The first is teaching a lesson on how to listen and follow directions quickly!
The second clip is rockin' out to Miley Cyrus and yours truly was waving her hands in the air AND trying to keep the iPad recording at the same time!!

Earth week is so special to me!
I love this time of the year...
Thinking of ways to make our lives cleaner, healthier, safer for years to come.

# 3
To help us examine the cause and effect relationships of real-world topics like recycling and saving the Earth, we introduced TRIGGER the MOUSE!
Trigger loves listening for Trigger words like "because" or "so" when he is reading because that tells him that there is a cause and effect happening at that point.

This was the second story in 2 weeks that got this teacher teary-eyed.  Perfect for examining cause and effect.
The kids connected so well with it.
Makes this teacher MIGHTY happy that they did!

D5 Math Rounds

The students are using a Math Menu to record and document choices throughout the week.
Feel free to click on the image below to download.
This was so easy to make in powerpoint.  I thought using actual photographs of each item would be more effective than anything else!   We have a tiny space dedicated for our Math Daily 5 materials.
I think our rule of thumb will be keeping the materials out for as long as the interest is there.  Once I notice a stalemate with a material, it will be time to change it out.
We have a sample Math Menu  hanging there with the total number of students allowed at each station.
This is definitely a work-in-progress  but the kids are having so much fun with it so I must be on the right track!
I am so excited that so many of you have shared your Math rotations and routines this year!  It has been extremely helpful, thank you!

Happy Weekend Ya'll!
--------------------------------------------------
I had this blog post ready to publish Thursday night.
Friday morning, I received a phone call before leaving for school..
Chris was involved in a bad accident on the interstate.
After many hours at the hospital getting scans and tests,
He sore-fully walked out, holding my hand.
God is almighty,
and my heart aches with joy that my prayers were heard AND answered.
I am truly blessed and I want to thank you so much for your prayers and get well wishes for Chris.  Keep them coming.  He's on the mend but every thoughtful prayer counts!
With love and gratitude,

First Grade CCSS ELA Pacing Guide

WOWZA friends!  After a nail-biting day of professional development with my first grade teammates from across the district, I felt I needed some restructuring in the Common Core department.  Our grade-level has been struggling with "un-packing" the ELA standards in more efficient way.  Last year, we created a document that was more than 50 pages... Of just the ELA strands!  YIKES!  It is the most UN-user friendly document I have in my possession!  One of our beloved veterans on the team, Miriam, was looking for something more effective for us to use, so tonight, I think I am going to make her happy! I found an edible template, free from a Google Search, and I added all my materials and assessments in.
This is still a work in progress but 9 pages is much more DOable than 52.
I would love your feedback and suggestions.  I have a feeling I may be leaving something out...  This is a word document so I apologize I have no JPegs for better images.
Please feel free to click here or on the image below
to download the document.
What types of Pacing Guides are you using?
I would love to hear about them!
Happy Hump Day!

Earth Week Visual Plans for April 22

Ok friends.. I am not sure what happened to the weekend, but I seriously want it back.
Looking ahead at this week, I am perplexed at the fact that I have an all-day sub on Tuesday for more district PD, then Friday is our field trip to Bolander Country Lane Tree Farm in celebration of Arbor Day.  Oh, and two assemblies to squeeze in too!  I have no idea how I am going to fit all this in, but Lord willing, I am going to give it my all!
My Monday to Monday planning has now turned into Tuesday to Tuesday... When did that happen?
Well, here's a little peek at my week (wishing and hoping!!)

You can click here to download the lesson plans or here for the Earth Day resource pages.

Thanks Deedee for sharing your Peek at my Week with all of us!

Here's hoping your Monday is Marvelous and Magical!
