A Sweet Peek at Valentine's Day Week in Room 102!

Hi there friends!
I just wanted to give you a SWEET peek at our
Valentine's Day week in Room 102!

In Math, we were focusing on-

Our Phonics focus:
We are still having fun practicing how to use The Final E, which we call The Magical FROZEN E.
The (igh) word family was very interesting, to say the least!
The pink cards are for my LIST A kids, and green cards are for my LIST B kids.
We read some stories and made words to help build our stamina with (igh).

Our Critter Cafe is going strong in Room 102!
Beanie Baby Reading Strategy Posters for the Common Core C
We are more than half way through our reading strategies and the critters are expanding rapidly!

Our celebrity of the week helped to reinforce our newest fluency critter, The Worminator!

We also revisited our book boxes and used this chart to help organize our reading collections!
Thank you LISA MATTES for your inspiration on this!

We had a LOVELY time writing Valentine's Day cards to our family members!  These cards were in my Valentine's Day pack.  If you missed it, click here.

And our special ART project this week was inspired by
"The Day it Rained Hearts" by Felicia Bond.

Friday's Valentine's Day celebration was a huge success!
Look at all this sweetness!!
The Valentine's Day mailboxes were so AWESOME!!!!

My personal favorite:  THOR's Hammer!

Even the teacher had a mailbox filled with love!!!
The kiddos really enjoyed getting mail and opening their Valentine's Day cards!

We even had time to learn how Conversation Hearts are made!
Each student used their box of conversation hearts to estimate and make predictions, then graph how many hearts were in the box!
They LOVED it!
Math can be so fun with food!!!
AND,
our day wouldn't be complete without a science project!
We investigated how to make LOVE POTION!

Our little scientists record their predictions on their data sheets!
The Before-
and After!
Taking a sip of the LOVE POTION makes me feel.....
WOWZA!
Who knew it was this good!

How delicious!  The jello-jigglers were a huge favorite!
So that was my SWEET Week last week!
Happy Monday friends!

  1. Whew! Looks like you had a great and busy week! LOVE some of those Valentine's boxes and the artwork you all did with The Day it Rained Hearts!! We just checked out your critter strategy pack....such a neat idea! We've got our eye on that for next year...most of our K teachers do the beanie babies for tricky words, so it would be fun to use them for reading strategies and make them special for 1st grade! So glad we stopped by today!!
